Custom Therapeutic Massage
Consultation
More than just a massage, your appointment includes taking the time to discuss your aches and pains and be heard. No need to select from a list of modalities that may or may not be what you need. Your therapist will ask questions to determine what type of massage work will be most beneficial, with informed consent.
The consultation is just as important as the massage itself, so it will not be rushed. That said, consultation lengths vary and can take as little as 5 minutes, or up to 20 minutes of time, depending on the complexity of issues and length of appointment.
Curated Session
Based on the consultation, your therapist will begin your custom session. There are no up-selling/add-on charges, and no tipping required. You only pay for the time scheduled.
Some techniques that may be used:
Effleurage (Swedish)
Petrissage (kneading)
Myofascial Release
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Muscle scraping
Intraoral/Buccal
Stretching
Range of Motion (Passive and Active)
Trigger Point/Positional Release
Kinetic Taping
Cupping
Hot Towels
Ice Therapy
Concluding the Treatment
After the session, we’ll discuss results, repeat any necessary assessments (if needed), and determine if more sessions are needed.
New to Massage?
Communication - You are always welcome to communicate with your therapist during treatment, to adjust pressure, pause or stop treatment, or simply chat about your day. Please keep conversation light-hearted, to promote a relaxing environment.
Draping - Draping policies allow for both the client and the therapist to be comfortable. You may ask your therapist to make small adjustments to draping (such as leave feet or arms out), but do not make any draping adjustments yourself. Failure to follow draping policies will result in termination of the session, so please review the full draping policy, here. This will be part of the agreement you sign upon booking.
Lighting - Typically, lights are low/dim, never off, or this can be customized by requesting lights stay on if preferred. The lights are diffused for better comfort while on.
Music - The therapist can select a calming music playlist, however, you can request or provide a playlist, cd, or your own device to connect to the stereo. Make sure the music you bring is not offensive or inappropriate, and it should be relaxing to you. The therapist can change the music if they deem it offensive.
Q&A: Do I have to take clothes off for a massage?
- The short answer is that it is entirely up to you! Your comfort and relaxation is of upmost importance. After consultation, the therapist will leave the room to allow you to “dress down to your comfort”, which means you can decide if you want to remove any clothing. If you choose to remove clothing, this will allow for more techniques to be available for the therapist to use, because specific modalities (such as Swedish and Myofascial Release), require access to skin. Even so, you are never required to undress, even if it is recommended. Your therapist will work within the boundaries you set. Your therapist will never work under clothing that is left on, however they may request to work over clothes. You are encouraged to communicate with your therapist about your boundaries.
